The Evening is an early 1913 work by Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky, painted before his total abstraction period. Kandinsky would go on to become one of the pioneers of abstract art. This picture was painted before his development of total abstraction but the fields of colour used here and a clear concern with the properties of colour itself are obvious. His colouring is deep and subtle, and shows a distinct spirituality seemingly embedded in the landscape.
Wassily Kandinsky’s The Evening is in the National Museum in Wroclaw, Poland.
