Alfred Sisley’s A Bridge at Villeneuve-la-Garenne presents a bridge on the left of the painting looming over boaters, and shading a relaxing couple. Painted in 1872, there is a counterpoint between the Impressionist painting of the water and the matter-of-fact painting of the buildings to the rear of the picture.
Alfred Sisley’s A Bridge at Villeneuve-la-Garenne is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
