Peter Paul Rubens: The Peace Embracing the Abundance

The Peace Embracing the Abundance: Peter Paul Rubens

Peter Paul Rubens displays in abundance the sumptuous and full shapes of the Baroque period in 1633’s The Peace Embracing the Abundance, from the full swirls of the figures’ drapery to the columns of the architectural background. The two figures are embracing – Peace on the left and Abundance on the right with her rich cornucopia in hand. The picture itself, due to its formal richness of shapes, seems to be a cornucopia.

Peter Paul Rubens’s The Peace Embracing the Abundance is in the Yale Center for British Art in New Haven, Connecticut.
