Mary Cassatt’s 1913 Impressionist painting The Crochet Lesson depicts two girls leaning into each other with eyes fixed on their task at hand. In this late work of Cassatt’s there is quiet solidarity of femininity and a location of the feminine realm in terms of the traditional association of crafts with women.
This craft of the two girls is synonymous with Cassatt’s own, and the artist almost paints in her impressionistic style with a thread-like effect of the brushwork.
