San Giorgio Maggiore in the Morning by English Romantic painter J.M.W. Turner we are presented with a Venetian scene. Such is Turner’s organisation of space – the building is in the distance – that San Giorgio Maggiore seems to almost dissolve into the atmospheric effects in which the artist revels. Painted in 1819, Turner made several visits to Venice during his lifetime.
J.M.W. Turner’s San Giorgio Maggiore in the Morning is in the Tate in London.
