Gustav Klimt: Portrait of Johanna Staude

Portrait of Johanna Staude: Gustav Klimt

Portrait of Johanna Staude by Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt is one of his final works, completed in the year of his death in 1918, and is thought to be unfinished. The decoration is still evident but confined to the outfit of his sitter. The background is much simplified although still nuanced with reds. His model’s face looks directly out at the viewer with perhaps a note of melancholy.

Gustav Klimt’s Portrait of Johanna Staude is in the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere in Vienna, Austria.
