Domenico Ghirlandaio: Portrait of a Lady

Portrait of a Lady: Domenico Ghirlandaio

Italian Renaissance artist Domenico Ghirlandaio painted this portrait of a lady in 1490 using tempera, oil and gold. The scene, and dress and golden hair of the lady is richly coloured. She rests her right hand on a ledge that borders the lower edge; this shows us a closeness. The background landscape is a fine perspective, and highly sophisticated for its time.

Domenico Ghirlandaio’s Portrait of a Lady is in the Clark Institute in Williamstown, Massachusetts
