George Bellows painted Blue Morning in 1909. It was the last of several dedicated to the portrayal of the building of the Pennsylvania Railroad Station in New York City.
George was an American painter noted for his libertarian advocacy of individual rights and his insistence on painting all aspects of contemporary society. Blue Morning has an impressionistic looseness of painting and documentary realism seems to combine.
The first relates the morning mist and light while the latter shows the process of work on which the artist seems to confer an almost classical dignity.
George Bellows’s Blue Morning is in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
